We come to youfree collection, qualifying oil

Transformer and insulating oil comes out of electrical equipment during maintenance, refurbishment and decommissioning. Because it’s a specialised stream, every transformer oil collection is assessed individually before anything is arranged.

Tell us about the equipment first

When you request an assessment, please include:

  • the type of equipment and roughly how old it is,
  • the estimated volume of oil,
  • any oil test results you have,
  • whether the oil has been mixed with any other oil.

A note on older equipment

Oil from older transformers can contain PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls). PCBs are regulated separately and need specialist handling. If your equipment is old, or you’re not sure, tell us before collection so we can confirm whether we can take the oil, or point you in the right direction.

Payment and documentation

Where the oil qualifies, payment and collection terms are confirmed upfront. Collection records and documentation can be supplied where applicable, which is often needed for electrical maintenance and compliance files.

Where we collect

We collect from industrial and electrical maintenance sites across Gauteng, including Germiston, Isando, Midrand, Centurion, Pretoria and Vereeniging. See all service areas.

Common questions

Do you collect every type of transformer oil? Each transformer oil stream is assessed first. Oil from older equipment may contain PCBs, which are regulated separately, so tell us the equipment age before collection.

What information do you need? The type and age of the equipment, the estimated volume, any oil test results, and whether the oil has been mixed with anything else.

What Oil Savers needs to assess your collection

Send your area, oil type, estimated litres and oil condition. Oil Savers confirms collection availability, qualification and any payment or documentation terms before dispatch. The standard commercial collection minimum is 100 litres (50 litres for used cooking oil), and instant payment is available for qualifying oil once the agreed terms are confirmed.

How is transformer oil assessed?

Like every oil we collect, it is inspected and assessed individually. Its condition depends on the equipment, its age and how it was stored, so we confirm the details before agreeing terms. Keep it separate from all other oils: it is priced on its own.

What information do you need?

The type of equipment, the approximate volume, roughly how old it is, how it is stored and any oil test reports you have.

What about oil that may contain PCBs?

Tell us if you know or suspect the oil contains PCBs. It has to be assessed and handled separately, so we will discuss it with you before anything is arranged.

Can you supply documentation?

Yes. Collection records and safe-disposal documentation can be supplied where applicable to the oil and service.

Is there a minimum quantity?

Collections start from 100 litres.

Do you charge for collection?

No. Our trucks drive across Gauteng to collect from your site, and collection is free of charge when your oil qualifies.

Book a collection

Fill the flowbin. We'll do the rest.

Drag to your estimated litres, add your details and we'll confirm qualification, terms and your collection window. We come to you anywhere in Gauteng, and collection is free for qualifying oil.
