Used engine oil is the most common oil stream we collect. Workshops, service centres, dealerships, panel beaters and fleet depots build it up every day through oil changes and repairs, and it adds up quickly. Once you have 100 litres or more, Oil Savers can assess it and plan a collection on one of our Gauteng routes.
What usually qualifies
Used motor oil is black oil: drained engine oil and general workshop waste oil. It normally qualifies as long as it’s kept reasonably clean. Clean oils such as gear, hydraulic and transformer oil are priced differently, so keep them in their own drums. Oil that’s heavily contaminated with water, fuel, coolant, solvents or brake fluid may not qualify for payment, or may need a different collection arrangement. Tell us upfront if anything has been mixed in.
How to store it so it qualifies
- Use sealed drums or IBCs with lids, so rainwater and dirt stay out.
- Keep engine oil separate from coolant, brake fluid, fuel and solvents.
- Don’t pour oil filters, rags or sludge into the drum.
- Keep the drums somewhere a vehicle can get to safely.
Payment and collection
Instant payment is available for qualifying used motor oil once the oil and collection terms are confirmed. What qualifies, and the payment, depend on the oil’s quality, contamination level, volume, location and current market conditions. We confirm all of this with you before we dispatch, so there are no surprises on the day.
Regular or once-off
Busy workshops and fleets usually prefer a regular collection so drums never overflow. Smaller sites can request a collection whenever they reach 100 litres. Send us your area, estimated litres and how often you build up a load, and we’ll suggest what works.
Where we collect
We collect from workshops, service centres and fleet depots across Gauteng, including Alberton, Germiston, Boksburg, Kempton Park, Roodepoort, Randburg, Midrand, Pretoria, Centurion and Vereeniging. See all service areas.
Common questions
Is there a minimum quantity? Yes. Collections start from 100 litres, which is the commercial minimum.
Can you collect oil that’s been mixed? Tell us what’s in it. Mixed or contaminated oil may still be collected, but mixing affects the price we can offer and whether it qualifies, so keep black oil and each clean oil (gear, hydraulic, transformer) in separate drums.
How quickly can you collect? It depends on your area and our route schedule. We confirm the collection window with you before dispatch.
What Oil Savers needs to assess your collection
Send your area, oil type, estimated litres and oil condition. Oil Savers confirms collection availability, qualification and any payment or documentation terms before dispatch. The standard commercial collection minimum is 100 litres (50 litres for used cooking oil), and instant payment is available for qualifying oil once the agreed terms are confirmed.
